God of War: New Kratos Game Officially Announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2026
Kratos God of War game is officially in development, with Santa Monica Studio creative head Cory Barlog confirming that a new Kratos-led title will arrive after God of War: Laufey. The announcement was made during the God of War: Laufey panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026. Barlog revealed that the next Kratos adventure will be directly connected to the events of Laufey, setting up the future direction of the franchise.
The confirmation ends speculation about Kratos’ role after the Faye-focused spin-off. Santa Monica Studio made it clear that Kratos remains a major part of the series, with more stories planned around the legendary Spartan warrior. Barlog explained that God of War: Laufey is not just a separate adventure but a chapter designed to expand the world and prepare players for what comes next.
God of War: Laufey launches February 16, 2027, exclusively for PlayStation 5. The game is about the story of Laufey, also known as Faye, as she journeys through the Everywhen, the gods’ afterlife. Her journey will explore new characters, battles with fallen gods and events connected to Kratos and Atreus.
The Future of Kratos and the Growth of the God of War Universe
No official title, launch date or confirmed setting have been announced for the upcoming Kratos-fronted game yet. The developers have hinted, however, that the characters and events of God of War: Laufey will be crucial in shaping the next chapter.
Kratos has already visited other mythological worlds, having taken down powerful Greek gods before entering the Norse mythology era.
