Paramount Pictures has officially unveiled the Children of Blood and Bone trailer, giving fans their first full look at the highly-anticipated adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling fantasy novel. Ahead of the film’s theatrical release on January 15, 2027, we’re treated to a glimpse of the magical world of Orïsha, with gorgeous visuals, sweeping action and a star-studded cast in the trailer.
A First Look at the World of Orisha
The trailer gives us a glimpse into the richly imagined world of Orïsha, where magic has been brutally erased by a merciless monarchy. The story follows Zélie Adebola (Thuso Mbedu) on a perilous quest to restore magic to her people.
The footage, which includes sweeping vistas, elaborate costumes, magical creatures and big battle sequences, suggests Paramount is marketing the film as one of its biggest fantasy films in recent years.

The story concerns
Based on Tomi Adeyemi’s international bestselling 2018 novel, the film follows Zélie’s quest to reclaim the magic taken from her people. She teams up with her brother and two other members of her royal family to take down a tyrannical king who has suppressed magic throughout Orïsha.
The trailer hints at themes of resistance, destiny, family and sacrifice and combines fantasy with African-inspired mythology and world-building.
Big Release For Fantasy Fans
Paramount will be bringing Children of Blood and Bone to theatres and IMAX on January 15, 2027. The studio has spent a lot of money on real locations – shooting all over South Africa and the Canary Islands to create a real fantasy landscape instead of going all digital.
The adaptation is shaping up to be one of the studio’s biggest fantasy releases of 2027, promising cinematic scale, an acclaimed cast, and beloved source material.
Author speaks out after trailer drops
The film was heavily promoted in the lead-up to its release, which also followed comments from author Tomi Adeyemi about her tough experience during production. Adeyemi recently revealed she would not be promoting or watching the finished film, due to personal distress linked to the film making process.
