CS2 Update Launches Premier Season 5 With Major Bomb Damage Changes and New Skins
CS2 Update Launches – On July 8, 2026, Counter-Strike 2 received a major update that brought some of the largest gameplay changes since the game’s release, kicking off Premier Season 5. The update brings Cache back to the Active Duty map pool, completely reworks C4 explosion damage, adds new Armory collections, adds community maps, and includes a handful of Source 2 improvements and technical fixes.
Premier: Cache makes a comeback in season 5
The official start date of Premier Season 5 was July 6, 2026, just after the end of Season 4. The biggest change is the return of Cache, replacing Overpass in the competitive map rotation. The new Active Duty pool features Cache, Dust II, Mirage, Inferno, Nuke, Ancient and Anubis.
Cache was removed from Active Duty on March 28, 2019, when Valve replaced it with Vertigo. Originally introduced through Operation Breakout in 2014, Cache became the first community-created map to enter the Active Duty rotation before later becoming officially owned by Valve. After almost seven years away from professional competition, the map returns with a refreshed CS2 version designed for modern gameplay.
The new Cache has been rebuilt with Source 2 technology, but returns to the classic industrial atmosphere of the original version. The map has concrete structures, rusted surfaces, Soviet-inspired architecture, unlike the visual redesign from 2019. There are also several gameplay changes, including the removal of CT Mid Window, changes to the position of the B Site Lamp and a new Checkers boost area that opens up new tactical possibilities.
Cache is expected to have a huge impact in the professional matches due to long-range battles, crucial mid control and AWP-friendly positions. Mid control is very important area for both attackers and defenders as it leads to Highway for Site A and Vents for Site B. Pros will have to tweak their strategies for the upcoming tournaments, such as BLAST Bounty on July 21, 2026.
New Armory Collections and Bomb Damage Overhaul
The biggest change in gameplay in the update is a complete overhaul of C4 explosion damage. The bomb now has a simulated shockwave that radiates out from the point of explosion, instead of the old instant damage system based on a set radius. Damage decreases with distance, and can be lessened or blocked entirely by walls or other environmental objects.
Valve has also introduced a health prediction option to let players know if they will survive the blast before the bomb explodes. This helps players make smarter decisions with post-plant scenarios, especially when deciding to save expensive guns.
The update adds two new weapons collections to the Armory: Spy Tech and Arabesque. Arabesque is all about regal patterns, gold embellishments and decorative art. Spy Tech is all about futuristic, tech-inspired designs. Two new sticker collections have also been added, Auto Racing and Fruits & Vegetables.
Other changes include new community maps (Boulder, Fachwerk, Shelter, Debris, El Dorado), improvements to the scoreboard, fixes to the Buy Menu, workshop updates, improvements to sticker rotation, and Source 2 engine upgrades.
