SoFi Stock Falls Even After Record Revenue as Profit Outlook Disappoints Investors

SoFi stock falls after the digital financial services business reported record revenue and profitability for the second quarter that above Wall Street estimates. The company nonetheless reported significant growth in members, more loan originations and raised its revenue projection, but investors zeroed in on management’s decision to keep its full-year profit outlook unchanged. That conservative posture came at the expense of another quarter of strong operating performance.

Record Revenue Continues Strong Quarter

SoFi reported adjusted net revenue of $1.2 billion, up 40% from a year ago, blowing past analyst projections. The company also recorded adjusted earnings of $0.12 per share, beating market forecasts.

Demand for loans in its lending business remained robust. Total loan originations hit a record $14.8 billion, helped by gains in personal, student and housing loans. We continued to see accelerated growth in our membership, which now stands at 15.8 million, up 35% over the prior year.

“Strong consumer demand, healthy credit quality and our diversified financial platform continue to drive long-term growth,” said Chief Executive Officer Anthony Noto.

Financial Results Beat Expectations

The company raised its full-year adjusted sales guidance to $4.75 billion to $4.85 billion, signalling confidence in ongoing business progress.

SoFi did keep its adjusted earnings guidance at $0.60 a share for 2026, however. Another huge earnings beat had investors hoping management would also improve its profitability outlook.

The Technology Platform division was another sore spot, with revenue down after losing a large client. The category showed sequential progress but was a concern for several analysts.

Investors react to a cautious outlook

SoFi shares tumbled nearly 9% after the firm reported quarterly results that beat expectations but raised questions about its earnings prospects.

A number of analysts pointed out that investors are giving greater rewards to companies that are improving both revenue and profitability. Some cited SoFi’s growing user base and varied business strategy as reasons to maintain favourable long-term ratings, while others said the recent results were primarily reliant on lending growth and did not offer enough upside to future profit estimates.

The broader market environment was particularly tough with banking companies affected by ongoing interest-rate uncertainty.

What Investors Need to Look Out For Next

Investors will be watching to see if SoFi can translate its quick revenue growth into stronger growth in profitability going forward. Ongoing deposit growth, member engagement and financial services products could enhance future profitability.

In subsequent quarterly updates, analysts will also be watching the recovery in the Technology Platform area, loan credit quality and management outlook. Interest-rate policy and overall economic conditions will probably also shape investor attitude towards fintechs over the rest of 2026.
