Marvel Cancels Wonder Man Despite Earlier Plans for a Second Season Renewal

Marvel Disney+ show Wonder Man was cancelled months after the company announced it would receive a second season. Earlier this year Season 2 was already announced so the surprise reversal blindsided Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fans. Reports suggest the project will not continue as a stand-alone series but some of the characters could appear in future Marvel projects.

Disney+ Reverses Previous Decision, Renews

Marvel announced in March 2026 that Wonder Man would return in season 2. Star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II returns as Simon Williams, and Ben Kingsley returns as Trevor Slattery, with showrunner Andrew Guest and director Destin Daniel Cretton. Marvel said at the time that work was underway on the next season.

But new reports now suggest the series has been cancelled by Disney+ before any serious production could begin. Multiple reports have suggested that the writers room for Season 2 never really clicked and writers attached to the project have been released.

Wonder Man: What Now?

There is no Season 2, but reports have suggested that Marvel is not entirely closing the door on the characters introduced in the series. People familiar with the decision say Simon Williams and other characters could return in future Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, but not in another season of the Disney+ series.

Marvel Studios and Disney have offered little detail on the abrupt change, other than that the series is not moving forward.

How fans reacted

Fans of Marvel are not happy with the news on social media. Many people were questioning, why would a critically acclaimed series be cancelled after being officially renewed. Others called the reversal strange, especially given Marvel’s history of not renewing its live-action Disney+ shows in the first place.

What this means for Marvel TV

The move signals that Marvel Television is becoming more judicious about what it’s developing for Disney+. The studio is still developing future series tied to the MCU, but Wonder Man is joining the growing list of Marvel shows cancelled after one season.

The biggest takeaway for viewers is that the cancellation doesn’t have to be the end of Simon Williams’ journey in the MCU. There still appears to be room at Marvel for the character to come back in upcoming films or streaming series, even if a second season doesn’t materialise.
