Jim James Announces New Solo Album 2026 Acoustic Tour and Releases Wowed Out Single
My Morning Jacket is giving fans a few reasons to celebrate with the announcement of Wowed Out by frontman Jim James. The singer-songwriter announced his first solo album in eight years, a solo acoustic tour in late 2026, and the album’s title track, “Wowed Out.” The new record is scheduled for release on August 28, 2026, marking James’ return to solo music after a long time.
Jim James Announces His First Solo Album Since 2018
Wowed Out is the fifth solo studio album from Jim James and his first solo release since 2018’s Uniform Distortion. Rather than create an entirely new project from scratch, James revisited music he’d originally written in the early 2010s for film-scoring collaborations with long-time friend and composer Brian Reitzell.
Those half-baked ideas eventually grew into a full-length album that blends psychedelic textures, intimate songwriting and reflective themes. James has said that the project was comforting to make, and he hopes that people will feel that same sense of peace when they listen to it.
Title Track for Follow-Up to Lead Single “Come Again”
James followed up the album’s introduction with lead single “Come Again” in June, and released the title track “Wowed Out” following that.
“Wowed Out” is a minimalist take inspired by spiritual and meditative music, as opposed to the more melodic first single. “James has said he wanted the songs to be a rewarding journey, rather than relying on dramatic musical climaxes, and instead to focus on atmosphere and emotional depth. The release continues to build anticipation for the album’s release in August.
Solo Acoustic Tour Will Visit Major U.S. Cities In 2026
Alongside the new single, Jim James announced a solo acoustic tour starting November 28, 2026 in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky.
The tour will include shows in a number of major cities including:
- Louisville, KY
- New York Chicago
- Boston
- boulders
- LA
James says the shows will feature songs from Wowed Out, cuts from his previous solo records, My Morning Jacket favourites, covers and a few surprises. Support on select dates includes Grace Rogers, Ken Pomeroy, Lauren Frihauf and Jenny O.
Why This Version Matters
The announcement is more than just a new album. It is Jim James’ first solo album in eight years, and it represents a different creative direction, built from found material instead of new songs.
The accompanying acoustic tour offers fans a deeper, more intimate concert experience, with stripped-back performances that put the focus on songwriting and storytelling. For long-time fans of both Jim James and My Morning Jacket, Wowed Out is the sound of an artist revisiting old ideas and making something new of them.
The album is due out late August, with the live shows starting in November, making it one of James busiest solo periods in years.
