Magic The Gathering Reveals Four New Star Trek Commander Decks Ahead of Their Release

Magic The Gathering Reveals – The long-awaited Magic: The Gathering x Star Trek First Look is here, giving fans their first detailed look at the upcoming Universes Beyond crossover ahead of its November 13, 2026 release. During the July 14 WeeklyMTG livestream, Wizards of the Coast revealed the set’s first cards, four themed Commander decks, new gameplay mechanics, and a full lineup of products celebrating nearly 60 years of Star Trek history.

Four Commander Decks Lead the Crossover

The biggest reveal was four Commander decks, each inspired by a major Star Trek faction or era. We Are the Borg is led by the Borg Queen and introduces the new Assimilate mechanic, allowing players to convert creatures into Borg artifact creatures with +1/+1 counters. Magic principal game designer Gavin Verhey said the mechanic became a larger part of the set because Borg assimilation is one of the franchise’s most recognizable ideas.

Other decks include Klingon Fury, led by Worf and focused on aggressive battlefield strategies, Landing Party, featuring Spock with Landfall mechanics and a visual style inspired by the original 1960s television series, and Federation Fleet, commanded by Captain Jean-Luc Picard with gameplay centered on drawing cards and deploying famous Starfleet vessels.

The main set will also feature three different versions of the Enterprise, while the showcased U.S.S. Enterprise-D (Galaxy-Class) uses the returning Station mechanic introduced in Edge of Eternities. Players assign creatures to power the spacecraft before it transforms into an artifact creature, representing a fully crewed starship.

Products, Release Date and What’s Next

Wizards also revealed the complete product lineup. Fans can choose from Play Boosters, Collector Boosters, regular and Collector’s Edition Commander decks, a Bundle, the Beam Me Up Bundle, Beginner Box, Draft Night, Scene Boxes, and Prerelease Packs.

Collector Boosters include 15 cards with extended-art rares, Booster Fun cards, multiple foils, and art cards or foil tokens. Commander decks contain 100 cards, 32 brand-new Magic cards, a borderless foil commander, tokens, and accessories, while Collector’s Edition decks upgrade every card to Surge Foil.

The reveal also confirmed four beginner-friendly Welcome Decks for local game stores and a Draft Night product designed for four-player Pick-Two Draft games.

This crossover joins Magic’s growing Universes Beyond lineup alongside The Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who, Fallout, Final Fantasy, and Marvel. Additional cards will be revealed during MagicCon: Amsterdam on July 17, with Wizards expected to share more previews before the set launches on November 13, 2026. One clarification from the official announcement is that each signed Headliner card will have approximately 250 copies, correcting reports that claimed only 200 were being produced.
