Red Dead Redemption 2 Gets a Free Download Just Before GTA 6 Release
Red Dead Redemption 2 – Rockstar Games has kicked off a limited time Red Dead Online event that will reward players with extra XP, bonus RDO$, exclusive cosmetics, huge in-game discounts and a rare O’Creagh’s Run Treasure Map. The event began on June 2 and runs until June 22, encouraging fans to return to the multiplayer world of Red Dead Redemption 2 while the studio continues preparing for the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 later this year. Players who reach Rank 20 as a Collector can unlock the exclusive treasure map before the event ends.
Red Dead Online Rewards Arrive as GTA 6 Excitement Grows
Although Red Dead Redemption 2 first launched in 2018, its online mode continues to receive periodic updates that keep the frontier active. During the current event, players can earn additional experience points and bonus RDO$ by taking part in various activities across the open world. Rockstar has also included cosmetic rewards and discounts on selected in-game items, making it a good opportunity for both new and returning players.
The headline reward is the O’Creagh’s Run Treasure Map, which becomes available after reaching Rank 20 in the Collector role. The limited-time reward has encouraged many players to jump back into Red Dead Online before the event concludes.
The update arrives as Rockstar’s attention increasingly shifts toward Grand Theft Auto 6, which is currently scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026. Players who pre-order the game will be able to begin pre-loading it from November 12, allowing them to download the files before release day.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Mods Keep It Alive
Beyond the online event, Red Dead Redemption 2 continues attracting attention through its active PC modding community. Recent mods have included random world events, expanded climbing mechanics in the style of open-world adventure games, and a reworked version of Blackwater that includes more buildings and interiors.
Fans are also still hoping Rockstar will release a dedicated PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S upgrade. While several reports have claimed that a next-generation update exists, Rockstar has not officially confirmed those rumors. A separate leak suggested the update may have been delayed as the developer prioritizes GTA 6.
The game’s technical achievements are also drawing fresh interest. A recently discovered development trick revealed that Rockstar created the illusion of Arthur Morgan flying higher during the hot air balloon mission by moving the cloud layer downward instead of expanding the skybox, an optimization that impressed many players.
With GTA 6 approaching and speculation around future Rockstar announcements continuing, the latest Red Dead Online event offers fans another reason to revisit the American frontier. Players interested in earning the exclusive rewards will need to complete the Collector milestone before the event ends on June 22, making this one of the final opportunities to claim the limited-time content.
