Subaru Trailseeker EV Launches With $40,000 Starting Price and New Electric Features
Starting at $39,995, the Trailseeker EV offers buyers a new choice in the competitive sub-$40,000 EV segment as Subaru makes its move into the expanding electric SUV space. The new electric SUV offers Subaru’s traditional all-wheel-drive capability with improved performance, range and modern technology, the company says. It will be available in U.S. showrooms late 2024 and will appeal to drivers who want an electric SUV that can handle both the daily commute and outdoor adventures.
Why is the Subaru Trailseeker EV Important to Buyers?
Subaru has designed the Trailseeker to be a practical electric SUV, but without raising its base price from the outgoing model. The company says the vehicle produces 375 horsepower, accelerates from 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds and has an EPA-estimated driving range of up to 281 miles. The standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive is still a selling point, giving the Trailseeker an edge for those driving in the rain, snow or on dirt roads.
What’s New in the Electric SUV?
The Trailseeker includes a host of convenience and tech upgrades. Every model includes a 14-inch multimedia touchscreen, wireless smartphone connectivity and the standard North American Charging Standard (NACS) port so you can access Tesla Supercharger locations. Fast charging is good up to 150 kW and under the right conditions can take the battery from around 10% to around 80% charge in about 28 minutes.
What’s the Trailseeker’s standing against the current EV market?
Industry analysts say the affordable electric SUV is still one of the fastest-growing segments in North America. Subaru’s joining the mainstream EV crossover party, with standard AWD and off-road capability, all while keeping the Trailseeker under $40,000. The vehicle also offers 8.5 inches of ground clearance, a range of X-MODE driving modes and plenty of cargo space – all features that appeal to buyers who are not just interested in city driving.

The Trailseeker is another big step in Subaru’s march towards electrification. The brand is growing its electric portfolio after the Solterra with a vehicle that’s aimed at those customers that need utility and adventure capability. Subaru seems to be aiming at shoppers who may be considering their first electric vehicle, but don’t want to give up the traits they know and love about Subaru. So they’re keeping pricing competitive, but adding better charging access and modern tech.
