iPhone Air 2 Rumors Reveal Biggest Upgrades Expected So Far
Last year’s iPhone Air was a decent first stab at an ultra-thin iPhone, but it had issues. That sounds like Apple is aware of that, too. Apple plans to release its next iPhone Air in spring 2027 with a few key upgrades, Bloomberg’s resident Apple insider Mark Gurman reported on Wednesday. First, Gurman said Apple will reportedly add a second camera lens to the back of the phone, turning a monocular phone into a binocular one. It will be an ultra wide lens so fans of the telephoto zoom might be disappointed but considering the original model had only one 48MP lens, that is a big deal.
Processor & Camera
In the latest fpt video, Jon Prosser talks about a number of features coming to the iPhone Air 2. Maintaining the same titanium alloy chassis as the iPhone Air. There will be a second 48MP ultra-wide-angle module to complement the primary 48MP camera for better photography and videography. Because the iPhone Air’s camera plateau houses the entire logic board, Apple will have to do some clever engineering to fit in a second sensor.
Sure, we are somewhat relieved to see the A20 Pro included, as that means Apple will offer top-end specs at a premium price instead of a slower SoC. The iPhone Air 2 uses the new WMCM (Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module) packaging to keep the DRAM separate from the chipset, allowing it to offer better thermal performance while still keeping that slimmer chassis.
Design & Battery
Word around town is that the iPhone Air 2 will not be getting a major design overhaul. The model is still going to be super sleek and slim, and it could be razor-thin at 5.6 mm. The Action button and the pressure-sensitive Camera Control button are also expected to return in force. There haven’t been any solid colour leaks yet, but we can expect Apple to stick with a refined and understated colour scheme that fits its high-end image. Expect to see neutral shades and possibly gold like last year.
Motorola Razr Fold and Razr 70 Ultra Launch in USA With Premium Features and Competitive PricingAs a reference, the current Air has a 3,149 mAh battery. It’ll last a full day, but it’s not great on the battery front, coming in at 79th place in our battery tests over the last two years. Around 6 hours and 41 minutes on battery tests, just shy of the class average of 7 hours and 9 minutes. It did beat out the Galaxy S25 Edge even though it had a lot bigger battery.
Pricing and storage
Pricing will be identical, with the 256GB model priced at $999, and higher storage options will be more costly. The bill should be pretty reasonable to add any small increase to cover the chip production costs. You get the standard multi-year software support, with the phone shipping with the latest iOS and receiving those crucial updates for years to come.
