Land Rover Freelander 8 EREV: The Freelander name is returning in a very different form. Rather than reviving the compact SUV formula of the past, Chery Jaguar Land Rover has developed the Freelander 8 as a large electrified luxury SUV aimed first at China. Its newly revealed cabin shows where the model intends to compete: not only through size and technology, but also through comfort for every passenger. The vehicle belongs to a separate Freelander portfolio licensed by JLR and based on Chery’s electric vehicle architecture.

The Freelander 8 interior uses a clean “T-shaped Bridge” dashboard design built around a 46.3-inch 8K panoramic display. The screen stretches approximately 1.2 metres across the dashboard and works alongside a separate 15.6-inch central control display. Its distant placement may help occupants view important information without making the dashboard feel crowded or visually heavy.
Six-Seat Cabin Focused on Comfort
The SUV has a 2+2+2 seating configuration, with two individual captain’s chairs in the second row. These seats offer heating, ventilation, massage functions, built-in ottomans and a one-touch zero-gravity reclining mode. The arrangement provides middle-row passengers with more personal space while creating easier access to the third row.

Premium Features for Rear Passengers
Rear-seat occupants receive several convenience features commonly associated with luxury people carriers. A 17.3-inch roof-mounted entertainment screen delivers a cinema-style viewing experience for second- and third-row passengers.
The cabin also includes a 10-litre compartment capable of cooling or warming drinks and snacks. Optional fold-out tables, dedicated climate controls, storage areas and third-row cupholders add practicality for meals, work or extended journeys. These features suggest that the Freelander 8 gives equal attention to passengers throughout the cabin instead of reserving its best equipment for the front row.
Advanced Displays and Connected Technology
The digital cabin is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8397 automotive-grade processor. The Freelander 8 is also expected to receive Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 5 assisted-driving system across the range.
The combination is designed to support responsive displays, connected services, voice controls and advanced driver-assistance functions. Selected physical switches remain beneath the central screen, offering an alternative to operating every feature through touch controls.
Soft-touch surfaces, metal detailing, precise stitching and crystal-style control knobs strengthen the premium appearance. The centre console includes dual wireless charging pads and an open lower storage area. A panoramic glass roof brings additional light into the cabin, while the elevated front seats provide the commanding road view expected from a large all-terrain SUV.
EREV Platform Adds Long-Distance Flexibility
The Freelander 8 uses an 800V electrical architecture and will be available with electrified powertrains, including an extended-range electric version. Reported EREV specifications include a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine working as a generator and a 60.331kWh CATL battery. The vehicle has a claimed electric-only range of up to 221km under the WLTC testing standard.
At approximately 5.1 metres long, with a 3,040mm wheelbase, the Freelander 8 has the dimensions needed to support its spacious three-row layout. Sales are scheduled to begin in China during the second half of 2026, while left- and right-hand-drive exports are planned for additional markets.
