Nissan Reveals New Brake Caliper Color Options for Upcoming Vehicle Lineup
Nissan is making the brake calliper more prominent in the look and identity of its performance cars. The manufacturer doesn’t just use colour as a basic visual cue, but rather uses silver, red, bright red, gold and yellow to designate different levels of brake hardware. How to Read the Colour of Nissan Brake Callipers
These Nissan brake calliper colours serve as a unique performance identifier on select models. Silver means ordinary road use, red and bright red means stronger hardware for performance oriented cars. Gold has a historic association with Nissan sports cars equipped with Brembo, and yellow is reserved for the rarest, most track-capable systems. This method is particularly noticeable with the refreshed 2027 Nissan Z range.
Silver Brake Callipers
Most standard Nissan cars come with silver callipers and are engineered for smooth and reliable braking for everyday use. They are not indicative of weak brakes. Instead, they reveal that the system is for regular roads, not constant use on high temperature track. Silver cast-iron callipers are found on the 2027 Z Sport, with two pistons up front and one at the rear.

The paint and clear finish are designed to take hotter temps, and the front brakes are 15-inch two-piece iron-aluminum rotors from the GT-R. The lighter rotor design also helps with cooling and weight, aiding more constant performance during hard driving, Nissan adds.
Callipers Gold
Gold has always been a symbol of Nissan’s performance portfolio, and it typically signifies Brembo brake components. The colour originally featured on the Japan-only R34 GT-R in 1999. It then went to American purchasers with the 2003 Nissan 350Z Track Edition and became a common sight on the R35 GT-R. Gold still has a strong connection to some of Nissan’s most revered performance cars for aficionados.
Yellow Brake Callipers
Yellow is the highest colour in Nissan’s braking hierarchy. It has ultra-high-performance carbon-ceramic brakes that resist fade lap after lap on the circuit. Nissan has only employed yellow callipers on a few production cars like the 2020 GT-R NISMO and GT-R Track Edition. The paint is meant to hold its appearance even when temperatures are above 1,832 degrees Fahrenheit.
Outliers: Some Models Are Exceptions
Sometimes Nissan has strayed from its usual colour restrictions.
