Texas Homeowner Faces Guadalupe River Flood Damage Again Just One Year After Major Repairs

For a Texas homeowner who had her life changed by another Guadalupe River flood, it’s been more than a year to get her house back in order after last year’s disaster. Recent flooding in Centre Point, just outside Kerrville, left about 2½ feet of water in the house, destroying recent repairs and forcing the family to begin the recovery process all over again.

What happened in the last flood?

Kara Doctor was close to finishing the task of rebuilding her home following the devastating July 2025 flood. The only thing left to do, CBS Texas reported, was the fireplace and contractors were scheduled to come the same day the floodwaters returned.

Instead emergency crews went banging on doors before dawn warning residents the Guadalupe River was rising fast. The family had to evacuate when floodwaters inundated the neighbourhood.

On reaching home the doctor found the house smeared with muddy water. Furniture bought after last year’s flood had been destroyed and a new riverside deck washed away.

Why is the Guadalupe River flooding again?

The latest flooding on the Guadalupe River came after days of heavy rain in the Texas Hill Country. Heavy rain from slow moving thunderstorms and saturated ground are rapidly raising rivers and creeks, creating dangerous flash flooding conditions in Kerr County and surrounding communities.

Weather experts say the area’s steep hills and rocky terrain allow runoff to drain quickly into the Guadalupe River. That geography has led to the area’s nickname of “Flash Flood Alley” for the potential for sudden and devastating flooding from heavy downpours.

What does this mean for the people here?

For many families this flood has ripped open wounds that were just beginning to heal. People here spent the past year rebuilding homes, replacing belongings and repairing flood damage from the July 2025 disaster.

The doctor’s story is one part of a bigger problem for many homeowners along the Guadalupe River. “Families have now had to deal with serious flooding two years in a row and many are now asking themselves if rebuilding in the same place is a wise long-term decision.

What does this mean for the Texas Hill Country?

The current flooding has renewed discussions of flood preparedness, emergency alert systems and community resilience across the Texas Hill Country.

Recovery efforts have resumed and officials continue to monitor river conditions. The latest disaster for homeowners along the Guadalupe River is a reminder of how much tougher it is to recover from back-to-back extreme weather events in a short amount of time.
