Disney Officially Greenlights The Cheetah Girls Next Gen With Raven-Symoné Adrienne Bailon and an All New Cast

Disney has officially greenlit The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen, bringing the beloved musical franchise back for a new generation. The new movie will premiere on both Disney Channel and Disney+, with production beginning this month in South Africa. The film reunites original stars Raven-Symoné as Galleria and Adrienne Bailon as Chanel while introducing a fresh group of young performers who will carry the franchise forward.

Original Stars Return as a New Generation Takes the Spotlight

The latest installment combines familiar faces with new talent. Raven-Symoné returns not only as Galleria “Bubbles” Garibaldi but also serves as an executive producer. Adrienne Bailon reprises her role as Chanel “Chuchie” Simmons and joins the production as a co-producer. Lynn Whitfield returns as Dorothea, Lori Alter reprises Juanita, Sabrina Bryan makes a special appearance as Dorinda “Do” Thomas, and Sophia Bush joins the cast in a supporting role as Jennifré.

The next generation is led by Leah Sava Jeffries as Faith, Galleria’s daughter. Jeffries is widely recognized for playing Annabeth in Percy Jackson and the Olympians. She is joined by Carmen Sanchez as Dior, Chanel’s younger sister, alongside Kaileen Chang as Ruby, Sophie Lennon as Brooklyn, and South African actress Kamogelo Ramashala as Kendi. Ramashala earned her role after being discovered through Disney’s global open casting call.

Directed by Bille Woodruff, the film features a screenplay by Kara Holden, Sarah Watson, and Deborah Swisher, with choreography by Kyle Hanagami. Debra Martin Chase, who executive produced the original trilogy, also returns to help lead the project.

Africa Adventure Continues the Franchise’s Legacy

The story follows Galleria and Chanel as they travel to Africa with Faith, Dior, Ruby, and Brooklyn. On a visit, the girls pitch in at a wildlife sanctuary, confront personal challenges, deepen their friendships and learn the importance of teamwork. Their journey eventually leads them to protect a wildlife preserve while embracing the values that defined the original Cheetah Girls before performing together as the franchise’s newest music group.

The movie is based on Deborah Gregory’s bestselling book series and continues a franchise that began with the original The Cheetah Girls in 2003. The first film became the highest-rated movie on broadcast or cable television at the time of its premiere, while The Cheetah Girls 2 dominated key children’s and tween demographics in 2006. The Cheetah Girls: One World also ranked No. 1 during its premiere week despite being the only film in the series without Raven-Symoné.

Disney says the franchise’s themes of friendship, music, confidence, fashion, and self-expression continue to resonate with audiences more than two decades later. The series has remained popular through streaming and social media, introducing new fans to the original films. Although production is underway in South Africa, Disney has not yet announced an official premiere date for The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen. The project is also part of Disney’s broader revival of popular 2000s franchises, alongside upcoming releases such as Descendants: Wicked Wonderland and Camp Rock 3.
