Starbucks App Not Working as Thousands of Customers Report Login and Payment Problems
Starbucks App Not Working – Starbucks customers reported widespread problems with the company’s mobile app on July 6, 2026, as outage complaints grew during the morning. Downdetector had 1,712 user reports for the app by 8:04 a.m. Eastern time. The reports focused on big metropolitan areas such as Chicago, Washington, D.C. and New York City, but customers in other places also reported problems. The disruption involved a critical component of Starbucks’ digital ordering system during peak morning hours.

Customers were affected differently depending on how they normally use the Starbucks app. Some users have had problems logging into their accounts, some have had unsuccessful attempts to pay, and some have had issues viewing their Rewards information. These failures are particularly frustrating for regular customers because the app brings together ordering, payment, stored balances and loyalty features in one place. When the system breaks down in several places at the same time, users are unable to go through their regular coffee order routine.
Mobile Ordering Is an Important Part of the Starbucks Experience
The Starbucks app is built to support multiple customer tasks per day. Users can order ahead, pay at participating stores and monitor Stars and Rewards through their accounts. That means an app outage can impact more than just browsing the menu. People who order drinks by mobile may have to change the way that they order and Rewards members may struggle to find information they would normally get from the app.
Payment and order functions require app access
The Starbucks mobile app also allows customers to customise drinks, save favourite stores, view past orders, save payment methods, scan to pay in stores and leave tips for baristas. Too many features attached to one app can cause login or payment issues to quickly cascade across many aspects of the customer experience. If a transaction is stuck, users are advised not to try to pay again so as not to confuse whether the purchase was successfully processed . Users are advised to check the order history and the payment account first .
Starbucks expands digital ordering amid outage
The disruption is coming as Starbucks adds more features to its digital ordering experience. Beginning May 11, 2026, the company began offering scheduled ordering, which allows customers to pick up their orders up to an hour early. The pickup windows provided will be based on the store’s capacity at that time. An outage that affects the app can therefore disrupt not only immediate mobile orders, but also the newer habit of planning coffee pickups around work, meetings, classes and other daily activities.
Starbucks has had app outages before.
This isn’t the first time Starbucks customers have run into problems with mobile ordering. A third-party system outage temporarily prevented some users from accessing the Mobile Order and Pay feature in July 2024. Starbucks said at the time that customers would still be able to place orders directly with baristas if the digital service was unavailable. “Past incidents have shown that sometimes app disruptions can happen due to factors outside of Starbucks’ own systems, but the cause of the recent July 2026 issues should not be assumed without official confirmation.”
